Female Investigations or Fertility

One in six couples experience difficulties trying to conceive.

Galway Fertility Clinic’s approach is to provide the least invasive, most effective treatment option to give you the best chance of success.

At your initial appointment, our consultant will review your medical history and schedule investigative tests as required. As part of your assessment, the following baseline tests are reviewed:

 

Female Partner Testing

The following tests must be completed by the female partner.

Hormone Profile

(Day 4 to 7 of your menstrual cycle)

FSH, LH, Prolactin,Free Androgen Index / Testosterone / SHBG

Thyroid Function Tests

  • counting the first day of your period as Day 1
  • This test gives a good indication of how your ovaries are functioning

Progesterone Level

Day 20 to 23 of cycle

Progesterone
  • To check ovulation
Smear Test recommended every 3 years
  • Results reviewed if available

The above tests may be performed by your GP prior to your appointment and the results are reviewed at your initial consultation. (If these results are not available you may be asked to do these with your next menstrual cycle).

Please note: It is important to have these tests completed as soon as possible as it may take 2 – 3 weeks to have results available.

Both Partners

The following tests must be performed on both partners.

Galway Fertility Clinic is licensed as a Tissue Establishment by the Irish Medicines Board – now rebranded to Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).

In compliance with National and EU Legislation governing the quality & safety of human tissues and cells all clients attending for treatment must have the above screening initially and at different stages during ongoing treatment.

The above tests may be performed by your GP prior to your appointment and the results are reviewed at your initial consultation. Repeat testing may be required in some cases.  

Male Partner Initial Tests

The male partner is requested to provide a semen sample for analysis at the initial consultation.  This appointment is pre-arranged and normally scheduled 1 hour prior to the couple appointment with the consultant.
