Cutting Edge Technologies

The Laboratory and Medical Team in Galway Fertility Clinic are very progressive in introducing new technologies and treatments that have a proven improvement in success rates

Embryoscope®:

We were the first clinic in Ireland to introduce the Embryoscope®, time lapse monitoring, to our embryo culture system and now use this for all our IVF clients. (For more information, see fertilitech.com)

IMT Matcher System:

Galway Fertility Clinic was the first clinic in the world to develop and introduce barcode labelling system for cells (spermeggs and embryos), during all treatment programmes, in collaboration with IMT Matcher Technologies.

The introduction of the Matcher™ (electronic barcode) system has enhanced our IVF lab traceability, eliminating the possible risks of egg, sperm or embryo misidentification due to human error, thereby reassuring our clients of the highest level of monitoring throughout their treatment cycles.

This provides you with the reassurance and security that you are getting a top class service.

Critical Equipment 24 Hour Monitoring System:

Galway Fertility has a 24 hour monitoring system in place, ensuring your cells are maintained in the perfect conditions they require. This system has been in operation in our laboratory since 1996, a decade before legislation made this a requirement.

No Hidden Costs

Galway Fertility Clinic has a pricing structure that is clear and transparent. The fee for IVF and ICSI includes all your appointments, laboratory services, blood tests etc that are required as part of your treatment cycle.

“Extras” that are often applied in other clinics (eg: blastocyst culturing, Embryoscope ® time lapse monitoring are included in all cycles in Galway Fertility Clinic at no additional cost to you.
Cryopreservation (freezing sperm or Embryos) is not included in the cost of IVF treatment, as not all clients have cells for freezing, and an additional fee is applied in such cases.

Success rates

Following laboratory improvements, including adopting time-lapse monitoring for all cycles, Galway Fertility Clinic has increased our success rates significantly, to well above the European and Irish averages.

Many factors influence the chances of a successful outcome with IVF. The most important of these is the woman’s age. The quality of the sperm and the quality of the resulting embryos is also vital.

Over 85% of all cycles that are started result in embryo(s) being transferred into the uterus and over half of these would expect to get a positive pregnancy test result.

We are very excited and proud of our latest success rates currently at 78% pregnancy rate per IVF cycle based on all treatment cycles in 2013, where one Blastocyst was selected for transfer up to age 37 years.

Success rates according to female age:

The age of the female partner is an important factor when assessing the chances of success as pregnancy rates decline after 37 years of age. With increasing female age, the ovaries may respond poorly and there is an increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities occurring.

Despite this natural ageing process, fertility treatment can offer an increased opportunity for success with the advances in medication and technologies.

The age of the male partner appears to be much less important factor in achieving a pregnancy, unless the quality of the semen is compromised.

The following graph shows the pregnancy rates according to the female age for all treatment cycles in Galway Fertility Clinic 2013.
(
Note: results expressed as positive pregnancy test per embryo transfer)

Our overall success rates for 2012-2013 show that 40.6% of all our clients delivered a baby (per IVF cycle for women up to age 41 years). These success rates prove that we are at the forefront of IVF worldwide.

(Note: In keeping with the general population of naturally conceived pregnancies approximately 20-25% of all pregnancies result in miscarriage).

Barcode Security and Traceability System at Galway Fertility Clinic

Safety is at the heart of all the procedures carried out in Galway Fertility Clinic. We installed the Matcher™ electronic witnessing system in 2006, becoming the first IVF clinic in the world to do so.

The introduction of the Matcher™ (electronic barcode) system has enhanced our IVF lab traceability, eliminating the possible risks of egg, sperm or embryo misidentification due to human error, thereby reassuring our clients of the highest level of monitoring throughout their treatment cycles.

The Matcher™ system is designed to confirm, match and monitor every procedure and process that occurs within the IVF laboratory. It provides a photographic record of every procedure, recording what procedure is carried out, the time and date of the procedure was carried out and by whom.

When clients attend the clinic for treatment they are allocated a unique identification number that will be used throughout all their cycles and procedures for identification and traceability. Clients attending for IVF and IUI treatment cycles will have their photograph taken using Matcher™ and their unique ID labels and labware labels are generated. These barcode labels are then used on all the labware in which their eggs, sperm and embryos are contained and all their associated paperwork. The Matcher™ system also enables us to record and track all labware and culture media used throughout an IVF or IUI cycle. It ensures that all containers, laboratory consumables or culture media that come into contact with eggs, sperm or embryos is recorded and is linked to the correct patient.
